Regular Garbage Services

Everyone within the community is required to have garbage collection. The City of Slater contracts with three outside waste management companies (Ankeny Sanitation, Garbage Guys, & Waste Management) for solid waste collection; however, it's up to each individual/family to contact the companies to determine which one best suits their needs, and from there, sign up for services with that respective company.  We've included contact information for the three companies below. *If you live in a rental property, please check with your property owner as garbage service may already be included in your rental payment. 

Additionally, everyday recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastic, and glass that would typically be separated from regular garbage, can now be thrown in the same garbage bag/container as your regular garbage. Everything will be sorted and processed at the Recovery Plant in Ames and turned into energy.

The City of Slater also has can redemption and glass recycling corrals (yellow dumpster) located at the west end of 1st Ave (in front of the City lot); proceeds go to future Park & Rec projects.

Spring Yard Waste Free Day

The City of Slater offers a Spring Yard Waste Free Day in May at Chamness Technology in Ames - 400 Freel Drive. Residents will be able to dispose of yard waste - including brush - at no charge during this event. Commercial customers will not receive free service that day, but may still pay to use the site. Fall Branch Clean Up & Wood Chipping Day

The City of Slater offers a Fall Branch Clean Up & Wood Chipping Day in October. Drop-off will be at the Public Works building between 2pm - 6pm. Stay tuned for the October 2024 date via the Slater Scoop, the city's website, and the city's Facebook page.
